Legislation and Central Authority

The Services for Social Support are responsible for the rights and responsibilities under the Hague Convention for protection of the children and cooperation with respect to intercountry adoptions. There are six Regional Agencies under the Services for Social Support and they have social workers dedicated solely to adoption procedures. Their responsibilities include:

  • assessing their suitability to adopt

  • preparing home studies of the adoptive parents

  • representing the adoptive families in Court

  • providing assistance to the prospective adoptive parents; preparing and sending of their documents to the country they want to adopt from
